When you see ‘Oriental carpet for sale’ beware

Posted on 28 April 2015

‘Oriental carpet for sale’ certainly sounds like an attractive proposition.

After all, who wouldn’t want a beautiful oriental carpet in his or her living room? It is an ideal addition to make a room more comfortable whilst adding a touch of class.

Despite the temptation to take up the ‘Oriental carpet for sale’ offer, it’s a good idea to take a moment to think carefully about whether to make the purchase.
That is because not all Oriental rugs are the same. Even a relatively untrained eye can spot the difference in quality between some carpets.

For example, just take a look at this photo:

It’s easy to spot the difference, right? There is clearly a huge gulf in quality between the two. The carpet on the left is a machine made carpet from a factory, whilst the other is a hand woven carpet made by us at Pars Rug Gallery.

But don’t worry about falling into the trap. Simply bear a few things in mind and you will make the right decision.

Oriental carpet for sale: 6 things to look for…

So what should you look for before buying a carpet? Here are 6 things to take into account…

      1. Price: A high price may put you off, but ultimately you get what you pay for. You simply can’t expect to get a quality carpet at a low price.

       2. Dimensions: The size of a carpet always determines its price. Therefore, if you want quality on a tight budget then shop around for a smaller carpet.

       3. Production process: Is the carpet handmade or machine made? The quality and the precision of a handwoven carpet cannot be replicated by machine. Nevertheless, always be careful when you are told a carpet is handmade if you are not sure.

       4. Function: You should also carefully consider the final destination of your carpet. If your carpet is for a bedroom you may wish to choose silk because it is unlikely to sustain much wear and tear in that location. On the other hand, if you are following the ‘kitchen rug’ trend you should think very differently.

       5. Patterns and definition: Another thing to consider is the precision of the design. If you see many undefined geometrical shapes you should start questioning the quality.

And last but definitely not least…

     6. The back: The back of a carpet can tell you a lot about how it was made. When there is a big difference between the boldness and vibrancy of the colours it is most likely to be a machine made carpet.

As you can see, there is not much difference between the front and the back of a handmade carpet.

Keep in mind all of these things and it will be much easier to make the right choice.

Remember: a valuable handmade carpet will last longer than its machine made equivalent and its value will increase over time.
