Frequently Asked Questions

Q) How often should I have my rugs and carpets cleaned professionally?

A)  We recommend that fine rugs and carpets are cleaned professionally every 2 to 3 years depending upon where they are sited in the home. For example runners will usually be in high traffic areas such as hallways and therefore will need to be cleaned more frequently as a result.

Q) Is it OK to use a carpet cleaning machine on my oriental rugs?

A)  We do not recommend this as you can damage the rugs by compacting the dirt which eventually destroys the carpet completely. We recommend professional cleaning by experts who will handle your carpet with care. Also we do not recommend using some commercial cleaning products as they can do a lot of irreversible damage to the natural dyes in your carpet.

Q) I have dogs (and cats) and over the years my carpets have taken quite a bit of punishment in terms of staining - can you help?

A) We have a good deal of experience of removing pet stains and restoring the carpets to their rightful state. Cats playing with the stoppers and unravelling the wool is a favourite past time - please call us to discuss your requirements with regard to making sure your carpets are in tip-top condition.

Q) I have recently inherited an oriental carpet and I would like to learn more about it - can you advise me?

A) We provide a Valuation service which details the rugs for insurance purposes - please call 01794 524040

Q) I have several Persian rugs but the edges are curling - what can I do about this?

A)  This is quite natural and nothing to be alarmed about - we suggest you have leather strips sewn on the underside so that the carpet lies flat. Often smaller tribal rugs are not straight as they have been made on looms that have been dismantled and moved during the tribes' progress in search of grazing. This adds charm to the piece and is something to be treasured in antique Persian rugs.

Q) How can I stop my Persian carpet walking? I know this is normal but it's driving my wife crazy as she doesn't understand why this happens.

A)  We can provide you with some excellent underlay to stop this phenomenon... also its very important if you have wooden or stone floors to make sure your carpets and rugs are stable.
